VIC (Spirit Made Flesh)

1872. In post-Civil War America, Wall Street booms and crashes, women clamor for the vote - and Victoria Woodhull runs for President. An infamous colleague of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Victoria's radical views on free love kept her out of most history books.

In VIC ( Spirit Made Flesh), Victoria and her daughter Zulu take us on a whirlwind tour of Victoria's world, filled with spirits, intrigue, love, lust, politics, notoriety, and power.

Directed by Elizabeth Klob, who has been collaborating with Maria on this piece for the past 2 years, VIC (Spirit Made Flesh) premieres at Open Circle Theater, opening February 7 and running through March 1. Previously workshopped at FringeACT Festival of New Work, the current cast includes:

Maria Glanz, Sabrina Prielaida, Alyssa Keene, Rachel Mills McCabe, Megan Campbell, Lyam White, Ted Dowling, Kevin Lawler,Ron Sandahl, and Monica Blum.

Original music writtne by Jason Webley and directed by John Ackerman and Susan McIntyre.

A full-length play with over 30 characters (played by 9 or 10 actors), VIC (Spirit Made Flesh) is in its final stages of development. Portions of the play were previously developed in Freehold's New Works Project, On the Boards' Northwest New Works, and Open Circle XXX. Thanks go to Liz Engelman and Wesley Middleton and everyone who created FringeACT, Mark Murphy (previously of On the Boards), Robin Lynn Smith at Freehold, and especially Elizabeth Klob and the Open Circle company for supporting this work so fully.

VIC (Spirit Made Flesh) could not have been written without the help of two dynamite biographies of Victoria Woodhull: OTHER POWERS by Barbara Goldsmith and NOTORIOUS VICTORIA by Mary Gabriel. I encourage you to check them out. There is also a lot of great information on the internet, so if VIC intrigues you - search away.
